Earlier in 2026 the book won the Literary Fiction and World Literature categories at the Independent Press Award, an excerpt was published in South Africa's Sunday Times in May, and Joseph sat on the literary fiction panel at this year's Kingsmead Book Fair in Johannesburg alongside Michiel Heyns, Sven Axelrad and Shakti Pillay. He holds four degrees from Dalhousie University, including a BA in French and a master's in computer science, and runs Nummist Media Corporation, a family company that consults on computer vision and image analysis. Joseph is now writing the third book, Vladimir and I, for 2027, set in the 1990s as several of the characters chase their dreams abroad, whatever the cost. The series will continue with a fourth instalment, The Painter at War, set in present-day Ukraine, and a prequel, Ninel, set during the Second World War.
