According to their account, the most senior officials in the government gathered there, in the room built for the gravest decisions of national security, not to weigh a threat to the country but to manage a political crisis over the Jeffrey Epstein files. The authors describe a facility meant to protect the nation used instead to protect one man's reputation. If the reporting holds, it is the book's argument made concrete, the machinery of the state quietly turned towards the interests of the person at its head.
